English language certifications

Having an internationally recognized certification in English is one of the necessary conditions for going on mobility to the UPF’s English-speaking partner universities.

Language Cert

Most English-speaking universities in Europe and the United Kingdom accept the

Language Cert English Test (LTE) A1-C2 Listening & Reading

The Listening & Reading English test is aligned with levels A1-C2 of the Common European Framework of References in Languages (CEFR), ideal for candidates from intermediate to mastery level (B2-C2).

As a UPF student, you can practice for the Language Cert English (LTE) test on the Global Exam platform.

To prepare for the exam in the best conditions, practice for the test well in advance to obtain your certification when your file is admitted.

The test is supported by the UPF only in the context of mobility

LTE A2 – CECR A2

Understand the most frequent phrases and vocabulary related to the most immediately personal relevant areas such as basic personal and family information, shopping, region and employment.

Capture the main point in short, clear and simple messages and announcements.

Read and understand very short and simple texts such as personal letters.

Find specific, predictable information in simple, everyday documents such as advertisements, flyers, menus and timetables.
LTE B1 – CECR B1

Understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar subjects regularly encountered at work, at school, in leisure time, etc.

Understand the main point of many radio or television broadcasts on current affairs or topics of personal or professional interest when delivery is relatively slow and clear.

Understand texts that consist primarily of everyday high frequency or work-related language.

Understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters.
LTE B2 – CECR B2

Understand extended speeches and lectures and follow complex lines of argument, provided the subject matter is reasonably familiar.

Understand most television news, current affairs programs and the majority of films in the standard dialect.

Read articles and reports about temporary issues in which the authors take particular attitudes or viewpoints.

Understanding contemporary literary prose.
LTE C1 – CECR C1

Understand extended speech even when it is not clearly structured and when relationships are only implicit and not explicitly stated.

Understand TV programs and movies without much effort.

Understand long, complex factual and literary texts, appreciating stylistic distinctions.

Understand specialized articles and longer technical instructions that are relevant to various fields.
LTE C2 – CECR C2

Easily understand any type of spoken language, whether live or on the radio, even when delivered at a fast native speed, provided there is familiarity with the accent.

Can read virtually all forms of written language comfortably, including abstract and structurally or linguistically complex texts such as textbooks, specialist articles and literary works.

TOEIC

Many host universities outside Europe require Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) certification. Each university establishes what is a sufficient score in English for admission to mobility.

You must take the test at an examination center and provide your results when submitting your application.

Chinese language certifications

Mandarin exams, recognized internationally, may be required to study or work in China.
